Charity vs. Business

I have seen throughout my career
Christians who do business with other
Christians only because they are
Christians.

Repeatedly I have seen this lead to serious disappointment.
Generally speaking, giving business to someone because he is a Christian is bad business.

Giving business to someone because they do excellent work for a reasonable rate is good business.

There is a natural tendency for Christians to want to bless their fellow man or fellow businessman. But don’t ever forget that that natural tendency is called CHARITY not BUSINESS.

If you want to bless your brother send him a check.

If you have a job that you need to hire someone for, find someone who’d be best at that job.

I’ve seen many, many, many people who’ve not followed this advice, fallen into the trap of mixing charity with business and ended up regretting it.

Also, if you’re a Christian in business and expect to cash in on your faith to make up for your shoddy business REPENT! You know better. Start providing an excellent competitive product that’s worth the money others are spending.

I’m not trying to be harsh, but to smooth this out would take a whole lot more words.

Hope this helps.
Joe

A Gift To You: Download This Song

Hey Friends,

I’ve been praying for years about my music.
I’ve wanted to get it out to more people.
So I would like to let you download this song for free.
You can give it to as many friends as you like.
But if you do want to use it for some commercial venture remember it is copyrighted but we can discuss licensing. Copyright Joseph Barlow 1995.

This song is called “Nothin’ But The Blood” it’s a remake of the old hymn by Robert Lowry.
I wrote this in a hotel room in Atlanta many years ago.
I put it on my album, Faithful Is He.
I hope you like it.

Thank God and Mr. Heimlich

Stu & Nina

Well it finally happened.
I was out to breakfast with my friend Stu.
I was in the middle of saying something really important when I look up at him and he’s looking fearful and panicked. His eyes are watering and drool is coming out of his mouth. He’s pointing to his throat and trying to get me to read his lips(which I’m not very good at) saying “I’m choking.”
Now Stu is a kidder. He’s always trying to pull one on me. But what he was doing didn’t look too funny. He starts motioning to his stomach like he needs the Heimlich maneuver. So we both jump up right there in the restaurant and I’m trying to do the Heimlich. Well obviously from the way we looked I don’t know how to do it very well. All I was thinking was I don’t want to break his ribs. I had him completely off the floor several times, like in my old wrestling days. To no avail. He was still choking.
I noticed one of the booths had a round backing that would be perfect for the next variation of the Heimlich. I lean him over that and apply pressure on his back twice. Out pops a pretty good sized half of a strawberry.
Stu with his first breath apologizes to the other customers in the restaurant but they all started applauding.
We both sat back down to our meal. Adrenaline pumping. Looking at each other in awe and wonder about the course of events over the last minute and a half.
Amazing.
God is faithful.
Stu says, “Hey I owe you my life.”
I said, “Yours has already been purchased.”
God loves Stu and has been doing awesome things in his life.
We got together so he could share those things. They are amazing.
Maybe you should ask him about them sometime.
But wait till he’s done with his meal.

Check This Out

The other day I went off to a local coffee place to sit and spend some time with the Lord. My house is pretty busy. I put on my earphones and had my laptop. As soon as I sat down the Lord started talking to me. It was a pretty serious word. Take some time to digest this one.

Strength, strength, strength to My people; governance and fortitude; wisdom and power.

My will must be accomplished and many say, ‘How can it be with the few we have?’ The few you have are mighty! The few you have are enough, if you listen to My Spirit and obey Me with your whole heart. One can take a nation.

“Will you follow Me? Will you set yourself apart and truly be Mine? You’ve signed up for the army, and failed to show up for duty. Come near, My children. My power is ready to manifest, and I can and will use you. Walk closer. Come! Even run to Me. I’m waiting.

“Come to the secret place and sit with Me. Get alone. Know that I am God. Know that as you sit before your Commanding Officer, the Holy Spirit, it will become known to you what you must do. I will not spill My will out on the ground. Become a trustworthy vessel for My commands.

“And as you sit, you will be astounded at what will be revealed to you. Move on My commands in My timing. Just because you’ve heard what must be done, don’t assume you know how to do it. Continue to pray and sit before Me in that secret place. Let Me birth this thing through you. Birth comes in My timing, not yours.

If “you think you can do anything I’ve spoken on your own, then you are misinformed by the spirit of this world. Listen to Me and wait. Your self-achieving spirit won’t work in My Kingdom. Wait on Me with My fruit of patience, and watch the beautiful fruit grow. There’ll be plenty to do, so don’t despise days of rest and sitting, waiting. How you’ll long for them later!

There is a massive harvest, and it’s Mine!” says the Lord.

New Videos on GodTube.com

Hey Friends,

We’ve been posting videos on Youtube.com but things have seemingly degraded there quite a bit. So we’re switching our videos over to GodTube.com so that I don’t inadvertently lead somebody who wants to see good stuff into an area where they could be tempted.

A friend from church put this video together from last week’s sermon. (Thanks Jeremy)
Mark Collins did the cool intro.

I hope you like.
God bless

You Are Where You Are Because of the Way You Think

You Are Where You Are Because of the Way You Think

Boy that’s either a very convicting or liberating thought!

You have what you don’t want because of the way you think.
You don’t have what you want because of the way you think.

As Christians we are called to renew our minds.
That is a chore! Some of our minds have been filled with thoughts and ideas that are so contrary to God, His thoughts and His will.

The Word of God is filled with encouragement to place God’s word very high in your priority list.

I spoke this morning on “Mind Renewal: Your Full Time Job”

Take a listen, I believe this should be the focus of the Christian’s life.
Everything else flows from there.

God bless you all!

We love ya

Joe
